Artificial intelligence in education and communication of young people with ASD

Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most promising technologies to transform inclusive educational processes, especially those aimed at young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Its application in pedagogical environments offers new opportunities to enhance communication, social interaction, and autonomous learning. This study aims to analyze the role of AI as an educational and communicative tool for young people with ASD, highlighting its benefits, limitations, and projections in the school context. A literature review was conducted using scientific articles published in databases such as Scopus, ERIC, and Scielo between 2019 and 2024, applying inclusion criteria related to the use of AI in inclusive education, augmentative communication, and technology-based interventions for ASD. Findings show that AI supports personalized learning through adaptive platforms, virtual assistants, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems. It also improves social interaction by providing simulation and gamified environments that strengthen communicative skills. However, limitations include issues of access, teacher training, and ethical challenges regarding data privacy. AI is a promising and innovative resource in the educational and communicative process of young people with ASD, provided its implementation is supported by inclusive policies, teacher training, and family participation.
