Abstract

This essay aims to analyze the pedagogical and methodological potential of virtual reality to strengthen the linguistic skills of lower secondary school students in the English language. The purpose is to understand how immersive virtual environments shape oral expression and listening ability when acquiring a second language. Based on a documentary analysis, national and international studies related to the application of immersive technologies that promote the functional use of the language in realistic contexts by replicating everyday situations were reviewed. Research indicates that interacting in digital environments composed of visual and auditory resources promotes motivation, participation, and teamwork through the interpretation of instructions, the comprehension of oral information, and the production of dialogues in a second language to complete tasks or solve situations presented within the virtual environment. Thus, immersive environments are emerging as an innovative strategy that supports the comprehensive learning of the English language in basic education.
