Main Article Content
Abstract
Throughout humanity history, in different cultures and social sectors, one or another
way of adopting habits, attitudes, knowledge and skills has stood out to insert themselves
more efficiently into the world around them. In this scenario, the competency-based
education modality is acquiring relevance in seeking to train citizens capable of facing the
demands of work, social and personal life, in a changing and demanding world. It is known
that the role of the teacher within this modality has been subjected to exhaustive
dissertations. However, the predominant role of the student has not been treated with the
same particularity. In this article, the objective is to describe the role of the student in the
competency-based approach, through a qualitative, documentary study. It is noted that an active student and protagonist in their learning process is a central element to
advance towards a more relevant and effective education, in the training of citizens
capable to impact their communities positively.
