Between the digital divide and artificial intelligence: Meanings and percepctions among rural students of the Zenú Ehtnic Group Montelibano - Cordoba
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research set as its objective to understand the meanings that students of eighth grade at the San Antonio Abajo campus of Centro Etnoeducativo Indígena Zenú Alto San Jorge attribute to the use of Artificial Intelligence in a context marke by digital divides and structural limitations. Through a systematic review of the literature on the digital divide, rural education, and the incorporation of AI in educational environments, a gap was identified in the literature regarding the meanings that students attribute to these technologies. The main findings show that the cell phone constitutes a mediating axis for approaching AI, also, that there is a duality between curiosity and fear regarding its use, and finally, that AI is perceived as an opportunity to quickly complete assigned tasks. The critical analysis shows that this intuitive access, mediated by prepaid mobile data and commercial platforms, does not actually guarantee digital literacy. In conclusion, the study reveals that AI in rural contexts must begin to be understood from the meanings constructed by students in order to develop adequate digital literacy, since in this context, learners remain at a merely instrumental and intuitive level of use, which relegates them to being passive subjects, absorbed by these new technologies.
